Collaborative Action Research
The Coalition supports scholarly research in the areas of literacy, personal transformation, women's
studies, and male leadership development. In an effort to promote the most effective and efficient
programs that help build strong families, we invite all Core Members, Affiliates, and Ambassadors to
submit proposals for studies of their new, established, or proposed social service programs.
Success and Happiness: A 5-Country Informal Exploratory Study (Jan.2006 - Feb.2008)
Sapphire Jule King's experience mentoring, tutoring, and counseling vulnerable youth yielded a key
observation: most progress made with the youngsters was negated once the youth returned to their
home environments. Most of the parents seemed unhappy yet resistant to counseling/coaching and
relunctant to take action that would change their circumstances. In this 2-year self-funded study, Ms.
King interviewed participants representing at least 20 countries to understand adults' concept of
success, happiness, and healing and to understand the principles for lasting change.
